My two cents
Well, everyone else has sounded off on RWA, guess it’s my turn to put in my two cents. I’ve been a PAN member for 3 years. In that time I haven’t exactly been an active member. I just recently joined my local RWA chapter and even then I don’t get to many meetings. Do I appreciate wearing my PAN name badge at conferences? Heck yeah! Do I think RWA and my PAN status have helped me get published.
Not so much.
And that is more a knock on me than on RWA. As with any organization, you get out of it what you put into it. Other than giving the occasional workshop and throwing a party or two, I don’t do a whole heck of a lot for RWA.
I believe if everything I’ve read and heard second hand is true, I won’t lose my PAN status even though both my publishers have lost their RWA recognized status. Does that mean I’m any less an author, because my publishers aren’t recognized?
Nope. I’m an author because I write. I’ll continue to be a member of RWA because they have information and resourses I can benefit from and there’s safty in numbers. I’m not weeping and wailing about my publishers being excluded. Do I feel like they’re making it difficult for smaller presses, maybe a little.
All and all, my two cents is worth exactly that. If you were looking for me to blast RWA, you obviously don’t read my blog that often, hahahaha.
